My GPS will calculate two routes for a destination. I chose the one that took me off the interstate for this trip. It was a good decision. It took me through several national forests and through Navajo and Apache Tribal lands. The entire trip was one beautiful scene after another. Along the way I saw lava fields, deserts, forests, deep rocky canyons, mesas and multicolored rock mountains. The downside of travelling alone is there is no one to take the pictures along the way. To be noted, there were very few places big enough for my motorhome and towed vehicle to pull off. During the 450 mile trip, there was only one scenic overlook that I felt comfortable pulling into.
I stopped the night in Globe, AZ in a Walmart parking lot. The view of the mine above the town caught my eye and made for a nice picture.

March 2016 Tent Rocks National Monumemt New Mexico
My Alfa Motorhome friends Wayne & Debbie here at Central KOA in Albuquerque took be to a fantastic hiking trail up the mountain at this National Monument. It was stunning. Ended up taking a little over 200 pictures during the 3 hr hike. Words just don't do it justice so here are a few of the pictures.

March 2016 Albuquerque, Abiquiu, Taos, & Santa Fe, NM
When I was planning this trip out west, I signed up for a
bunch of rallies that I thought would be fun to attend. For the most part, they were timed well, but
I did have a big gap between the rallies in the Palm Desert, CA and the ones in
Yuma, AZ. A really good friend from my working days, Jennifer Macht told me she had always wanted to explore Santa Fe and the areas where a favorite artist
of hers, Georgia O’Keeffe, had done much of her work. Thus, we decided to meet up in Albuquerque
and tour from there.
For five fully packed days we toured the area and had a
total blast. Between the two of us we
took 2,472 pictures. Since then, I have
been able to take the best from both of us and peered that down to a measly
1,220 pictures. Needless to say, I won’t
subject you to all of them, but there are many that are just too good not to
share.
Abiquiu - Location of Georgia O'keeffe's adobe residence.
The White Place in Abiquiu where Georgia spent much time painting.
Ghost Ranch - Georgia rented a cottage here. This was also the location for many Western Movies.
Santa Fe - Location of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum
Horseback Riding at the Ghost Ranch
On the Road to Taos
Nomads living in the desert.
Underground houses totally off the grid
Warning to cows to be aware of alien abductions
Bridge across the Rio Grande
Kit Carson's grave in Taos
Albuquerque Zoo & Aquarium. While we have been to larger facilities, all of the animals looked really healthy and well taken care of.
No visit to Albuquerque would be complete without a stop to the Bug House and its neighbor, the Spaceship House.
Our final destination was the National Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque
